Week 3 - Integumentary System

Week 3... INTEGUMENTARY SYSTEM

Click HERE for the notes I gave in class - they are self explanatory and really not necessary, just wanted to front load you with some information before you guys opened up your MT textbook!

Make sure to read the entire chapter, take notes, etc... I will NOT be collecting any of that though!
I will collect pages 73-82.  You can either photocopy the pages and write your answers in or just respond on a piece of binder. Either way works for me.  remember these packets are going to be equal to the same points as the test to offset any bombing of the exams so put the time into them and don't rush it.  Its a win win for you - you get the points for the assignment and it also helps you study for the test.

Also check out this amazing video on sun damage - SUNSCREEN VIDEO, there will be questions on the test from the video!

What does next Wednesday look like for you...

AM - you will have a sub in the morning as I have my daughter's music performance that am. I will try to be back for third period but may or may not make it.  You will need to turn in your timesheet, your journal, your integumentary packet and take your integumentary test.

PM - I will be back for your class! Make sure to have your time sheet, journal, integumentary packet ready to turn in and that you are ready to test.

EVERYONE
You are invited to a Med Occs Holiday Party from 2-3 where am and pm can come together meet each other and we can share in some holiday cheer! Look for a sign up genius to bring something to share! Hope everyone can make it!

Also, I need everyone to register at BOTH Chabot and Las Positas for Spring 2019! This will allow us the greatest flexibility when the time comes in case we need to use one class or another. This must happen before NEXT Thursday!

Click HERE for INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO REGISTER WITH LAS POSITAS

Chabot's CATEMA process is the same, however I don't believe you will find my name there yet... I am still waiting on them to upload my name into the data bank, as soon as they do that I will let you all know! Thank you - Schreiber

Mondays Schedule

Hello All...

I have received lots of texts/emails about tomorrow. Here are your most frequently asked questions and my responses, I am also reposting tomorrow's schedule as well as some things to remember.

FAQ's
1.  Does LHS/GHS have to go to their third period final tomorrow am at Granada?
answer: NO, you will either attend Kaiser orientation in the afternoon or you will start site Tuesday am.  If your site is flexible with their site times you can go during your final for our class, but let me know.  In my opinion, I would probably wait and just start at normal time on Tuesday.

2. Do we wear scrubs to Kaiser orientation?
answer: From here on out you wear scrubs every day except Wednesday.

3.  When does PM start site, Monday or Tuesday?
answer: If you are a PM student (this includes students moving from AM to PM, Ariella, John, etc...) you GO TO SITE TOMORROW!

4.  Do Kaiser students start Monday or Tuesday?
answer: ALL KAISER STUDENTS ATTEND ORIENTATION TOMORROW AT KAISER LIVERMORE FROM 1-3.

If you have any question about where you are to go tomorrow, just text me.

THINGS TO REMEMBER FOR YOUR FIRST DAY/WEEK AT SITE

  • It is a privilege just to be at a site. Be HONEST, HUMBLE, & HARDWORKING
  • You are to arrive no less than 15 minutes early
  • All piercings need to be out except one pair of studs, absolutely no plastic, clear hole holders (LOL, I forget what you call these). I will pull you from site if you have piercings other than studs in.
  • Hair is to be pulled back
  • You should have your little mead notebook and be jotting everything down.
  • Bring your Community Classroom Binder! Make sure to journal each night and write your time in and out down!
  • Copy me on your emails to your site supervisor so I know what you are communicating with them.
  • Make sure to give your parents one bright pink emergency form, your site supervisor one bright pink emergency form, and I will collect the third and final bright pink emergency for min class on Wednesday!
  • I will see you all in class Wednesday!

Here is your schedule for tomorrow and Tuesday.

FIRST DAY OF SITE WILL BE... Monday, November 26th EXCEPT for AM students going to either Stanford, vet or dental sites.

So if you are a PM student you are GOING to site.

If you are a KAISER AM OR PM student we have moved the Kaiser orientation to the afternoon to accommodate our students who are taking finals that day so ALL kaiser students will attend.

If you are an AM student who is at Stanford, Sunol Creek, a VET SITE, or a DENTAL SITE you will NOT start Monday, but you will START Tuesday, the 27th.

I will be emailing all site supervisors, but honestly they are crazy busy and will quickly glance at my email. It is YOUR responsibility to reach out TO THEM and let them know which day you are starting.  If you are confused or have a question just text me and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

STANFORD @ VALLEYCARE
Thank you to all of my Stanford students! Karen Lounsbury said you were professional, positive, and just a pleasure to have at orientation. Thank you so much for making me proud and making my job a little easier! KUDOS TO YOU!

ARE YOU READY!?! ITS SITE TIME!

EVERYTHING YOU WILL NEED TO KNOW FOR YOUR FIRST DAY
Now that Friday crazy is over... thank goodness... we can get back to business.

I was so disappointed that we did not get to have our orientations for our dental and vet students. I am so sorry, but I do not see how we can reschedule them and get you out to site...

With that said, let's talk about the first day...

KAISER
Click HERE for our Kaiser schedule.
Monday, November 26th - ALL Kaiser interns (no matter which site you are at) will be together, Monday, November 26th at Kaiser Livermore from 1-3. Be there no later than 12:45!

Tuesday, November 27th - All AM Kaiser students (no matter what facility you are placed at will go to Kaiser Livermore from 10-12! All PM Kaiser students (once again no matter which facility you are placed at) will be at Kaiser Livermore from 2-4.

VET / DENTAL / SUNOL CREEK / INDEPENDENT OFFICES (CONTRERAS, DERMATOLOGY, ETC...)
AM - You will start Tuesday, November 27th
PM - You will start Monday, November 26th
*Please contact your site supervisor via email and phone and communicate which day you will be starting.

BADGES
I will hand out photo ID's in class on Wednesday, November 28th! Please let your site supervisor know that because of the school closures there was no way for me to get them to you. I will be at some of your sites on Monday and if I am there I will pass them out to you, but there is no way I can get them to all of you. Don't stress about it, just use the one without the ID for the first day or two!

COMMUNITY CLASSROOM BINDER
You must have your community classroom binder with you at site at all times.  Ask your supervisor where you can leave your keys, water bottle and binder. They usually have a place or a locker of some sort where you can store these items. Take NOTHING else into site with you! Make sure to lock your cell in your car, and park appropriately!

Thank you ALL for your flexibility last Friday! I greatly appreciate it, I was scrambling... and honestly a little annoyed only because I really wanted to have everything tight and dialed in for us before we started. Looks like another life lesson, we don't control our circumstances, just how we respond to them! SO THANK YOU TO ALL OF YOU FOR BEING SO FLEXIBLE! I greatly appreciate it!

Good Luck to my LVJUSD kiddos on their last finals, Happy Thanksgiving to all and wishing you all an AMAZING first day of site!

Hugs - Schreiber :)
PS - please comment your name so I can check off that you have read the following info. If you know a student in our class does not get the reminds about blog updates, please text them and tell them to check the blog! Thanks - Schreiber

Blogging from the car

Sorry guys ... long day and crazy night... but wanted to get this post out to you. Lol so it’s going to be sweet and to the point.

Tomorrow
Class photo - Come dressed in your scrubs. Hair pulled back all piercings out. Minimal make up.
Remind me tomorrrow to look at your shoes. They should be closed toed tennis shoes. If you are at the hospital at Stanford they must be white. All other departments may have black or Grey. Nothing bright and flashy. Absolutely no converse. Plain white vans are fine as long as they are kept clean.

Kaiser Interns
You have two things to do tonight...
1. Fill out THIS google sheet with all of your info on it
2. Go to this link: https://volunteer-ncal.kaiserpermanente.org/ and sign up

Piercings
Pull them all out! Only one pair of studs. Absolutely no clear studs either

Ok I think that’s it for now

See you tomorrow!

Wednesday, November 7th

GOOD WEDNESDAY MED OCCS! I AM UCSF THIS AM FOR A VERY EARLY APPOINTMENT BUT CAN BE REACHED BY CELL AFTER 10:30!

LOTS OF IMPORTANT INFORMATION IN HERE SO PLEASE READ THOROUGHLY AND FOLLOW THROUGH!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DO NOT CONTACT SITES TODAY!

REPEAT - DO NOT CONTACT SITES TODAY!

I have not had any time to email sites and work out everyone's internship kinks. We need to push this back to Thursday afternoon.  Thank you for your patience!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THANK YOU!
Ok so both of my classes completely went way above and beyond and totally spoiled me! You guys... I am so humbled, so grateful! Thank you so much.
AM the gift card was way over the top! I will be eating very well for a very long time! And you know how I love my salads ;)
PM The goodie basket was so much fun to open! I felt like a celebrity getting a swag bag! LOL! I  loved the individual sentiments and cards.
I will eventually get thank you notes out to you but right now I am super focused on getting everyone to site.  Give me some time to just get us dialed for site... I would like it to go as smoothly as possible... for all of our sakes!

CUSTOM INK ORDERS
Please get your CustomInk orders in by Thursday so I can finalize our order by Friday! I want to have that stuff in your hands prior to leaving for Thanksgiving break! Thanks!

IN CLASS ASSIGNMENT FOR THIS WEEK
Super important for you to review and KNOW the basics before starting site. You will need to do a lot of in class reading today and tomorrow to get all of the information down.  You are more than welcome to take pictures of the textbook, but you can't take a textbook home with you. I only have one class set.  Each class, AM and PM will be building a google slideshow to present, but it will depend on your area of discipline - medical assisting is anyone working with humans but NOT on their mouth, Dental assisting, and vet tech. Therefore there are three separate presentations in each class.  Presentations should be ready to go for Friday's classes! Here are your links...
AM MEDICAL ASSISTING
AM DENTAL ASSISTING
AM VET TECH
PM MEDICAL ASSITING
PM DENTAL ASSITING
PM VET TECH

TIME MANAGEMENT ASSIGNMENT - NEW DUE DATE - Tuesday, Nov. 12th
Stop freaking out. Yes it is a 2-3 page paper, but its all applicable... Its me asking you to look at your life, analyze what you want to get out of it, and how you propose to do that! Super useful and it will get you dialed in for time management. Since we have presentations on Friday I am willing to extend this assignment until Monday! Absolutely no excuses though on Tuesday. You sign in and hand it in!

KASIER INTERNS
All students who have either been assigned to Kaiser or we are still waiting... fingers crossed, MUST print the following form off and fill it out in its entirety no later than THURSDAY and bring it in! I need these in class Friday morning so I can organize their student immunization binder and I can get it dropped off.  If I do not have it by Friday morning I will give your site to someone else! THIS MUST GET DONE TONIGHT!

KAISER VOLUNTEER PAPERWORK

STANFORD @ VALLEYCARE INTERNS
All students who have either been assigned to Stanford @ VC or we are still waiting... fingers crossed, MUST print the following forms off and fill them out in their entirety no later than THURSDAY and bring it in!

For Stanford they are having us fill out an entirely new immunization cover sheet form... (insert eye roll emoji here) so I will need you to do this in class either today or tomorrow using your immunizations.  If you have a question about what goes where ask Skylar or Richard, they should know or just send me a text and I will try to respond back asap.

I need these in class Friday morning so I can organize their student immunization binder and I can get it dropped off.  If I do not have it by Friday morning I will give your site to someone else! THIS MUST GET DONE TONIGHT!

STANFORD @ VALLEYCARE - YOU HAVE A LOT TO PRINT OUT.

MR. GRESHAM HOPEFULLY WILL HAVE YOUR IMMUNIZATION COVER SHEET FOR YOU IN CLASS TO FILL OUT TODAY!

IMMUNIZATION COVER SHEET
CODE OF CONDUCT
CONFIDENTIALITY FORM
ORIENTATION PACKET - This is a HUGE (26 pages) doc. You need to print it out and save it for your community classroom binder. I will only need the last two pages for signatures by Thursday, however we will go through this packet in its entirety the day of the Stanford @ VC orientation.

HR - DRESS CODE - Please print out, READ, and save for your community classroom binder.

INTERVIEW SKILLS

This week is all about interview skills and preparing YOU for SUCCESS!

Love this comic because I had not had the chance to talk to yet about cleaning up social media.  You MUST know that social media will follow you anywhere and everywhere... even if you think your account is private! Check out THIS story from last year that got students kicked out of a college that they had already been accepted into! That just stinks! Get rid of your social media accounts, or at least tone them down.  Be conservative in posting pictures, opinions, politics... remember there is no judgement if you are going to be caring for others!

Ok - Done lecturing

LESSON PLANS
I will be posting each days lesson plans on the blog as I update them. Please try not to go ahead.   Also I will NOT be posting homework as it is now located in the details of the lesson plans.  Please click on the lesson plan link and follow it. Thank you - Hugs - Schreiber

Wednesday 10/24

Dear Amazing Med Occ Students - I hope you are all well.  I apologize for the piece meal Tuesday was.  If I understand correctly the sub could not get the lesson plan to work until PM class.  Hopefully today will be different.

I am including the link to my sub lesson plans for each day.

AM - You guys will need to do Tuesdays before you can begin Wednesdays - it is how to write a resume and you will need to bring a rough draft to class.

PM - You should have your rough draft in class today - you will be sharing out and receiving feedback in class and then learning about cover letters and professionalism.

If someone from each class, especially morning can get the LCD projector running (i know my desk is a mess - so sorry) and then pull up these lesson plans from the blog it should be much easier for the sub!

I appreciate all of your kind texts, and will explain everything on Thursday  I plan to be there Thursday to collect index cards and ask questions about site. I apologize if I am not responding to you, it has become a little overwhelming with all that I am dealing with. I am receiving them but just haven't had a chance to reply back.  Thank you so much for all of the love - it definitely brings a smile to my face. Also thank you for being flexible, you know it is one of my favorite f words ;)

Continue to follow protocol until further notice.

Positive Energy to all of you - Schreiber :)
